"DINNER IN MEXICO" helped Sacramento ESL Program pay rental fees for classes, buy copies for lessons, and buy books and other materials for students. We served over 100 people during the day of the event. People began arriving before 2:00 and were still arriving to eat at 8:00 PM! We had balloons and "papel picado" decorations, live music in English and Spanish, and CDs of Mexican music. People from many nationalities went, including people from China, Vietnam, Mexico, Colombia, and the United States.
THE RAFFLE/DRAWING WAS A BASKET, WHICH CONTAINED AN AIR POPCORN POPPER, POPCORN SEASONING, COOKIES, CANDIES, POPCORN BAGS, FLAVORED NUTS, and BODY SPRAY, ONE FOR HIM AND ONE FOR HER. The picture at the top/left is of (left to right) Patricia Rodriguez (SESL Secretary), Leticia and Jesus Alejo (who hosted and were chefs of the event), and Jonathan Funchion, whose mother won the Raffle Basket.
The picture on the right is of some of those who helped set up and take down, carry things, cook, serve, clean up, sell tickets, and so on: Jesus Alejo (host and chef), Margo Sterling (president and teacher), Victoria Hawes (teacher), Patricia Rodriguez (SESL secretary), Laura Santibañez (SESL student), Kathryn Boyd (teacher), Leticia (SESL student and hostess of the event), and Nikolay Matteys (SESL student).
